In November 2025, the city of Bishkek hosted the 50th Anniversary World Sambo Championships, one of the largest international competitions on the calendar of the International Sambo Federation (FIAS).
For the first time in history, the capital of the Kyrgyz Republic welcomed a World Championship of such scale. The competitions were held at the “Gazprom for Children” Sports and Recreation Complex and were organized to a high international standard. Athletes from more than 50 countries took part in the Championships. Over several competition days, medal sets were contested in Sport Sambo, Combat Sambo, and Sambo for athletes with visual impairments.
Successful Performance of the Kyrgyz National Team
The national team of the Kyrgyz Republic delivered a strong performance at the home 2025 World Sambo Championships, winning medals of various distinctions and confirming the high level of sambo development in the country. As a result of the Championships, Kyrgyz athletes won the following medals: Gold Medals- Bekbolot Toktogonov — Sport Sambo, over 98 kg
- Daniel Asekov — Combat Sambo, up to 58 kg
- Elkhan Orozaliev — Combat Sambo, up to 79 kg
- Uson kyzy Akak — Combat Sambo, up to 54 kg
- Meerimai Nuradilova — Combat Sambo, up to 80 kg
Final Medal and Team Standings
At the conclusion of the 2025 World Sambo Championships, the national team of the Kyrgyz Republic won a total of five medals — two gold, one silver, and two bronze, achieving a successful result at the home World Championship. In the overall team standings, the Kyrgyz Republic finished third at the 2025 World Sambo Championships. The first place was claimed by the team of Russia (competing under the flag of the International Sambo Federation), second place went to the national team of Kazakhstan, and third place was secured by the team of Kyrgyzstan.
